When parents and sponsors present their children for baptism in the Lutheran Church, they promise to “faithfully bring them to the services of God’s house, and teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. As they grow in years, you should place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for their instruction in the Christian faith, that, living in the covenant of their baptism and in communion with the Church, they may lead godly lives until the day of Jesus Christ.” The most important things we do for our children is to love them and teach them about God; at home, at Sunday school, in worship, and when they become older, in confirmation class. Confirmation for 7th and 8th graders will begin this year with a meeting at 10:15 a.m. in the sanctuary immediately following worship on Sunday, August 22nd. The pastors will explain the requirements of the course, hand out materials, and answer your questions. Classes will begin the following Wednesday, August 25th, during release time from the Middle School. We are arranging bus transportation from the school to the church. The 7th graders will be required to read through much of the Old Testament, and study Lutheran church History and Doctrine, The Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten
commandments. The 8th graders will be required to read through much of the New Testament, and study the Apostles’ Creed, the Sacraments, and Lutheran Worship. Memorization will be required, with a test following each unit and a comprehensive Final Test following each year. During Lent the Confirmands will attend Wednesday evening services and Mentor Groups following worship instead of Wednesday afternoon classes.
These sixteen 7th graders are listed on the Sunday school class roll or have signed up for confirmation: Alyssa Aker, Heidi Bergquist, Nolan Foss, Tannah Kathman, Christopher Loutsch, Miranda Madsen, MacKayla McKinney, Andrew Mears, Caleb Nolz, Ashley Olson, Dylan Pauli, Shauna Pauli, Olivia Stone, Zakaria Teske, Elli Webb and Grant Werling.
These ten eighth graders prepare for the second and final year of confirmation: Gretchen Biersbach, Kirsten Biersbach, Jordyn Bock, Andrew Christensen, Kathleen Fraasch, Braydon Gomer, Alysha Madsen, Jaden Rudebusch, Sydney Schake and Jacob Thyne.
If you do not see your 7th or 8th grade child on this list and want them to attend confirmation, please call the church office at 432-5566. This will enable us to be prepared wit h materials for everyone. Families will receive a more detailed letter in the mail in the next few weeks. The pastors look forward to spending this coming year with our Confirmands as we explore toget her more deeply our Christian faith and Lutheran heritage and what it means to be saved from sin and called to serve others. |
