AMERICAN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 9, 2009

Present at the meeting were June Seehafer, Mike Haddican, Terry Forster, Sheila Bien, Mark Granquist, John Gustafson, Kevin Schuelke, Chuck Foss, Dennis Mears, Pam Nelson, Pastor Janine, Pastor Craig, Ron Anderson and Dorothy Larson.

President Ron Anderson called the meeting to order.
Devotions were lead by Terry Forster.

Secretary’s Report: A motion was made by Dennis Mears and seconded by June Seehafer to approve the August 12, 2009 minutes as printed. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Pam Nelson reviewed the accounts and balances presented as of August 31, 2009. Motion to approve the treasurer’s report was made by John Gustafson, seconded by Mark Granquist. Motion passed. The council was reminded that committee budgets are to be prepared and that the Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, November 22 at 1:00 pm.

Pastor’s Report: Pastor Janine and Pastor Craig reported on some of the Pastoral Acts during the past month. They reviewed the funerals, baptisms and wedding performed. Pastor Craig reported on the ELCA Assembly in Minneapolis August 17-22 that he attended. They talked
about their concerns about the vote and the options that were before the congregation. They would like to attend a Lutheran CORE gathering in Indiana to discuss options for the congregation will be held. ALC staff delivered Meals On Wheels Aug 10-14, Confirmation classes began August 26, Rally Day will be September 13, “Cliff’s Day” Twins Game on
September 20, “Food For The Poor” Sunday will be September 27. Pastor Janine will attend the Augustana Regents Meeting September 27.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Property & Management: Kevin Schuelke discussed additional information gathered and options available for the permanent lighting around the parking lots of the church. Gary Wellnitz has offered to build shelves for AV storage. There are miscellaneous repairs to be made around the church including drainage away from the church and to the trees surrounding the church lot. Also addressed was the condition of the church lawn and maintenance to be performed. The
Property and Management Committee will explore the options available and report their decisions.
Worship: Directors for the Sign of The Times and M&Ms have been set in place. The use of CDs to lead the hymn selections on Wednesday night services has begun and Pastor Craig reported that it is going well.
Evangelism: Information is being gathered for a Prison Ministry tour at the Appleton Prison. Pastor Janine has contacted officials at the prison and is planning dates that would be open for the ministry. A sign up sheet will be available at the Welcome Center for those interested.
Youth & Education: Mike Haddican reported on the beginning of Sunday School. WOW registration went very well – many positive comments from returning parents were given and new families registered their children. He stated that there is still a need for Sunday School and
WOW teachers. Kick off for the new year of the Middle School program is September 17 and September 25 for High School. See You At The Pole is scheduled for September 23 at 7:30 am. Pastor Janine explained the Orphan Grain Train project including Kids Against Hunger. A building has been donated by a member of Emanuel Lutheran and is being built now just west of the bus barn. Both the Orphan Grain Train items and a food packaging station for Kids Against Hunger will be housed there. Pastor Janine is raising funds for the $8000 to establish the station. About $3000 has been raised for the project so far.
Finance: Dennis Mears reported on the status of the finances and discussed options that will be selected and put into place in the upcoming months.
Old Business: ELCA Assembly decisions were discussed and steps to be taken in dealing with the direction of our congregation. After discussion, a motion was made by Sheila Bien and
seconded by Terry Forster to send Pastor Janine to a Lutheran Core conference in Indiana on September 25-26. Information can be obtained at www.lutherancore.org. An open forum will be held after the meeting in Indiana to communicate what is happening and the congregation’s
options.
New Business: A Point Of Distribution (POD) committee is in place to encourage educational processes for the protection of our community regarding the upcoming flu season.
Motion to adjourn was made by June Seehafer and seconded by Mark Granquist. Motion passed.
We closed with the Lord’s Prayer and benediction by Pastor Craig.
