AMERICAN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH
COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
August 12, 2009
Present at the meeting were Ron Anderson, Dennis Mears, Rosann Lichtsinn, Kevin Schuelke, Chuck Foss, Mark Granquist, June Seehafer, Mary Hepper, Dorothy Larson, Terry Forster, John Gustafson, Pastor Craig, and Mary Bjordahl.
President Ron Anderson called the meeting to order.
Devotions were lead by Chuck Foss.
Secretary’s Report: A motion was made by Dennis Mears to approve the minutes as printed. Mary Hepper made a second. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Mary Bjordahl reviewed the accounts and balances as of the end of July. An estimate of the bills that will be due by the end of August was presented. It was reported that we are in a better financial position than last year at this time.
There was a discussion on having a fund drive for paying off the new building loan. A motion was made by Mark Granquist to approve the fund drive, a second was made by John Gustafson.
Pastor’s Report: Pastor Craig reported that the 3 hospital visits were much less than last month. He reviewed the funerals, baptisms and weddings. They had a great vacation at Fort Wayne. Pastor Craig will be attending the ELCA Assembly in Minneapolis on Monday and asked that we keep him and the assembly in our prayers. Pastor Janine not present at the council meeting because she was attending an event at NeSoDak.
Property & Management: Bids for new lights in the parking lots were obtained and the committee decided to table this project until it was in the budget. There was a discussion on prioritizing the projects such as shingles for the parsonage, fixing the window wells, landscaping and a seal coat for the parking lot.
Worship: The music directors, pastors and the worship committee met on Wednesday, August 5th. Carol presented the calendar for special music. Leaders are needed for Sign of the Times and M & M’s. Upcoming
events are Rally Day in September and a Bell Festival in October at Brandon. A lefse funderaiser will be held in October. There was a discussion on the Wednesday night services.
Evangelism: Pastor Janine is inquiring about doing prison ministry at the Appleton prison.
Youth & Education: Mike is with the campers at NeSoDak. Sunday School teachers are being lined up. The WOW committee is getting new members.
Finance: Income from offering for 2009 so far is ahead of last years income. The committees should start working with their budgets for next year.
Old Business: Ron presented information about Summer Stewardship Days, Sunday September 13 at Zion Lutheran in Aberdeen.
New Business: The Annual meeting will be November 22 at 1:00. This is the same day as the Bake Sale & potluck dinner.
Motion to adjourn was made by June Seehafer, second by Mark Granquist. Motion passed.
We closed with the Lord’s Prayer and benediction by Pastor Craig.
