Easter is the Resurrection of Jesus FOR YOU! |

One of my favorite hymns is “Now the green blade rises.”
I love it because it likens our life of sin and all its pain to the seasons of winter and spring.
Now the green blade rises from the buried grain,
Wheat that in the dark earth many days has lain;
Love lives again, that with the dead has been;
Love is come again like wheat arising green.
In the grave they laid Him, love by hatred slain,
Thinking that He would never wake again,
Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen;
Love is come again like wheat arising green.
Forth he came at Easter, like the risen grain,
He that for three days in the grave had lain;
Raised from the dead, my living Lord is seen;
Love is come again like wheat arising green.
When our hearts are wintry, grieving, or in pain,
Your touch can call us back to life again,
Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been;
Love is come again like wheat arising green.
Easter can mean so much more when you lose someone you love. Easter can bring a new perspective after struggling with a lifethreatening
disease or have come face to face with the threat of death. Perhaps you have had a great loss this year, perhaps the uncertain future in our unstable economy has shaken you to your core. Maybe you have stood by the graveside of someone you love clinging desperately to the promise of eternal life, spent many days and nights in sadness (although we do not grieve as those who have no hope), have struggled to adjust to the emptiness and loneliness that is left behind when one we love dies. Maybe it has been years since you lost someone dear, and you still can’t seem to shake the fog of grief. Yet as Easter approaches, these events take on a meaning that we didn’t truly appreciate before. Imagine the person you love being restored to you. Imagine coming near the brink of death and being fully restored. Imagine that the threat of death and loss no longer existed. Easter is plain and simple the resurrection of Jesus FOR YOU! Without Easter, we have no hope of lasting forgiveness.Without Easter, we have no hope beyond this life. Without Easter this life is all we have.
Paul talks about this in his first letter to the church in Corinth Chapter 15: “But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of
the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied
more than all men.”
This is the heart of our faith. The center of what makes us Christians....Jesus has suffered and died for you! On the third day,
God raised him from the dead! Now that’s good news. May you know the comfort and joy that ONLY the resurrection of Jesus Christ can
bring! Happy Easter!
