May is Moving Month! 2005-05-10
“We are no longer human beings, we are human doings,” someone said at a meeting recently. We are constantly doing and doing and doing...I wonder what this says about our prayer lives. Do we take time to reflect in the busyness of our modern lives? How detrimental is it when we disconnect our doing with God’s doing?
As Dave Hystad pointed out in his temple talk recently, we are living in an exciting time of the life of this congregation. God has blessed us richly and is providing amazing opportunities for ministry everyday! So many things are happening---not just concerning the details of the building, but details about the continuing and the building up of many ministries at American Lutheran Church.
Ministry will not take a “break” as we do the giant task of moving from our current location to our new location. In this demanding time, we ask you to commit additional time in prayer for the life of the congregation. At this critical time we need to be in prayer. We ask the Holy Spirit to “MOVE” among us in this transition time.
Please join us in praying for:
The Staff: For all the additional demands that moving will require with the regular demands of the life of the church
The Building Committees & Church Council: for patience and endurance as they push even harder now with all the final details
The Dedication Committee: as they plan the events surrounding the move
The Volunteers: Even if you can’t physically help, you can be in prayer. Continue to bathe this project in prayer.
The Whole Congregation and the Future: That we are ready for the new ministry opportunities ahead to all who God will call to “come and see”. For the Holy Spirit to find open and receptive hearts.
The National Church:The ELCA is also at a critical juncture as it takes up issues such as the authority of Scripture and the role of the active homosexual in the leadership of the church. Pray for church leaders, synod assembly and the churchwide assembly in August. Pray that faithfulness to Jesus Christ and His Word will prevail in this tug of war.
A spirit of humility in the face of tasks that dwarf us
A desire that Christ be glorified in all that we do
May you be “moved” to deeper commitment to Jesus Christ and His church as he meets us in Word and Sacrament!
