Programs and Services

American Lutheran Church is a busy place, offering many services to both the congregation and the community.

Worship in the Sanctuary

During Lent we have one service on Wednesday evenings.

Special services throughout the year include Thanksgiving eve, Christmas Eve, Holy Week and services brought on by events such as September 11th.

There are many weddings, funerals, and other occasional services such as private baptisms.

Music

Several choirs practice at the church every Wednesday night during the school year. The Chancel (adult) choir, with about 18 members, practices in the music room. The "Allelu" contemporary music group with about 10 members practices one or two evenings a month in the sanctuary. The Bell Choir practices every Wednesday evening in the sanctuary.

Christian Education

Sunday school for grades Nursery though 12th grade is held each Sunday morning at 10:00. Confirmation is also held at this time.

The High School youth meet for activities at the church once or twice a month. Elementary age youth meet each Wednesday after school in the fellowship hall for Christian educational activities.

Vacation Bible School is held at the church for a week every summer.

Service and Fellowship

There is something going on in the fellowship hall almost every day. On Sunday morning after the Worship Service it is filled with people enjoying coffee and fellowship. One Sunday a month there is a "Love in Action"/New Members potluck following church services.

The women of the church spend two Tuesdays every month using the entire fellowship hall for quilting. The Prayer Shawl ministry group uses the fellowship hall one or two evenings a month to knit and crochet shawls for the sick and shut-ins.

WELCA and circles, Chruch Council, and task forces such as the Strategic Planning Committee and Building Committee use the fellowship hall serveral times a month for meetings.

The fellowship hall is used as a gathering place before funerals and to serve meals following funerals.

The fellowship hall hosts special events throughout the year such as the annual Senior Citizens Supper, Pancake Feed, Wednesday Lent suppers, Kumla Supper, and special celebrations.

The various youth groups use the fellowship hall for activities and meals.

Community Activities

The Milbank Boy Scout Troop 45 uses the fellowship hall every Monday night for their troop meetings and activities.

The Milbank Girl Scout Troop 3412 uses the fellowship hall two Monday evenings a month for their troop meetings and activities.

Koch Elementary School uses the Sunday school area one day every fall for preschool screening.

Lutheran Social Services uses the Fireside Room every Tuesday as a satellite counseling office, serving up to nine clients a week.
